Dynamite live up to their name

Douglas Junior Netball started last Tuesday afternoon at Port Courts with the Gladiators playing the Wildcatz on Court 1.

Both sides played very strong defensive games which kept the game tight for the majority of the match.  Gladiators opened the scoring early in the first quarter when Carla Young shot the first goal. Jenna Kerswell played a strong game and Georgia McCarthy moved the ball down the court well.

The second and third quarters remained goalless with the Wildcatz having many attempts.  Kate Padovan was determined in defence as was Myah Lowenstein-Jones, making intercepts look easy.

The Wildcatz scored in the fourth quarter to equalise the game when Jay Heidke found the ring, soon to be followed by a goal from Myah Lowenstein-Jones making the score 2-1.

In an exciting final five minutes Carla Young found the goal again making a well deserved tie 2 all.

On court 2 the Pythons played the Net Set Go girls. The teams combined forces this week giving the up and coming junior stars a chance to learn new skills on court.

Edie Thurtell as GS was on fire shooting three goals in the first quarter - keep your eyes on this girl Sharon!!

Nettas centre Grace Richardson, another rising star was all over the court with some fantastic intercepts.  Tayhla Catiente was brilliant playing a great, fair game for the older and younger girls.

All the players meshed well for a fun afternoon.  Mikeala Nesbit topped off a fine Net Set Go performance showing her shooting skills and versatility on the court.

Final score 1 all draw.

The 12/Under competition saw the Diamonds against the Miallo Allstars, and it was the Diamonds who were sharp from the first whistle shooting six goals to nil in the first half.

Bonnie Francis and Piper Adams were in fine form, still in practice from the weekend netball carnival finishing the team's effort nicely at goals.

The Allstars picked up their game in the third quarter shooting two goals to three with great team work by Lana Baxter and Krystal Shultz the team made the Diamonds work hard for their win.

Final score Diamonds 15 def. Allstars 4

On Court 2 the Poison Apples played the Red Hot Peppers in a closely contested game and both teams were two goals apiece at half time.

For the Peppers Sharmiah Walker and Natayah Bowen were excellent covering the court well and creating space to gain the ball.  For the Apples Ella Dodds was excellent in attack and Cartier Bennett used her strength to move the ball forward to goals.

A great game was played by both teams with a final score of 6 to the Apples defeating the Peppers 4.

The 12/Under Rep team played the Vipers on Court 1 in the 14-16/Under competition. The Vipers, with some of their normal defence players trying goal shooting, still played a strong game against the younger Reps.

Jess Eagle-Rowe for the Vipers played a quarter as shooter and did quite well shooting four from seven attempts and Saisha Schonenberger will probably stay in defence shooting one from eight attempts. Jade Schuck was good around the goals and is always focused and on the ball.

The Reps played some very good netball. Lana Baxter was pivotal in centre creating many plays and helping her team get to goal. Kyah Francis was excellent in attack against some taller opposition and Aleesha Viola lead well and found space creating intercepts.

Final score Vipers 18 def. Reps 5.

Court 2 saw the Sapphires play the Fusion and for the Sapphires Claire Sciacca put in a great attacking game along with Daisy Hawkes who reads the play very well.

For the Fusion team Lauren Radcliffe starred earning herself best and fairest and player's choice for the night. Well done Lauren!

The game was fast scoring with a final score Fusion 24 def. Sapphires 5.

The Breakers played Dynamite on Court 3. Dynamite was just that in the first half shooting 23 goals to 1. They moved the ball quickly and accurately playing well as a team with Marley Cairns shooting well for goal.

The Breakers struggled to stem the Dynamite's barrage but Tyler Mous stood her ground and was excellent playing Goal Defence, a difficult position that she is showing great promise in.

Final score Dynamite 29 def. Breakers 2.

Thanks to the Junior Umpires this week, Georgia Kelly, Lana Baxter, Marley Cairns, Eleisha Mealing, Tayler Durie, and Saisha Schonenberger.
