Double for comeback kid

Douglas knew that this game against Leichhardt was a must win for them so they could get in amongst the boys at the top of the table, and they would deliver with a solid performance which was topped off with a spectacular performance by a returning player on the night.

Douglas could not have hoped for a better start with a goal timed at under forty seconds. The ball played out wide, crossed in perfectly to find the head of returning player Ashley Woods. The keeper was able to get hands to it but Ash kept his nerve and tapped it in for 1-0 and the best possible start.

Douglas then took control of the game and around 15 minutes later Woods got the ball 25 yards out, let rip and found the far corner of the net for his and Douglas's second of the night.

The first half then began to fizzle out with few chances for either team but Douglas dominated the main share of possession and went in at the half happy with both score line and performance.

The second half was again dominated by Douglas who started to play some of the best football they have all season, knocking the ball around well and pressuring the opposition. However something Douglas have struggled with this season is finding goals and alarmingly this seem to be the case again.

As the game entered the final stretch Leichhardt produced something that did not seem likely all game and that was a goal. The game was now at 2-1 and Douglas suddenly felt uncomfortable with the score line and the balance of the game.

Douglas then tried to hold the ball as much as possible to run the game clock down and that they did. Creating a couple more chances and gaining a few corner kicks. Again unable to find the killer third goal but they did get the final whistle they had been waiting for to finish the game at 2-1.

The "Paddys Irish Bar Man Of The Match Award" had to go to Ashley Woods who not only returned to score two great goals but also celebrated his fortieth birthday on the night.

Ashley commented that it would be one he would remember for a long time.

Douglas travel to high flying side Hmong Cairns FC this Friday for Game 7.
