All the action from the Junior Sharks

UNDER 7

This week the Under 7s played an exciting game against Edmonton Lightning with Mossman having a full capacity side of twelve players against their opposition.

Some players to mention who displayed courage in their run-ups on the day were Dakota Santarossa, Saxon Ferris and Leilani Pitt.  Tackling proved to be the key to this week’s 16 – 4 win as all players put into practice what they have been learning at training – skills for safe tackling, moving up as a line of defence and getting back on side.

Try scorers for this week were David Neller (3) and Matthias Jackonia. Well done, boys!  Man of the Match for this week goes to Hallie Jenkins for good tackling and strong running up of the ball.
Coach’s Award is well deserved by Fletcher MacDonald as he always gives one hundred per cent effort at training and on game day.

UNDER 8

The Under 8s had another fantastic game on Saturday defeating Edmonton Lightning 44 - 0.

Great defence from the Sharks kept Lightning scoreless and an outstanding team effort resulted in tries for Malachi Jackonia (5), Tyson Osborne, Brodie Francis, Jayden (2) and Kye Durie (2).
Kye was awarded Man of the Match for a whopping 21 tackles and the entire team earned themselves Coaches Awards for outstanding team plays.

The Under 8s then backed up for another game against Redlynch as an opener to the Northern Pride vs Sunshine Coast at Barlow Park.  The boys came away with another win and were all very excited to have to had the opportunity to play in front of the Pride players and spectators.  Well done Sharkies for representing our club so well.

UNDER 9

The mighty Under 9 team this week weren’t so mighty.  We let in nine tries to our one.  The Edmonton team taught us a valuable footy lesson - if you don’t hold the ball and don’t tackle you will not win the game.

When we held onto the ball we played well.  Matty Graves, in his front row position played above his weight and never gave up.  Jimmy Smith came in with some great runs and good tackles.
This week’s man of the match award goes to Braxton Wienert who played great footy.  He is a consistent football player who takes on board your advice and puts it into practise.

UNDER 11

After a bye last week the Under 11s were looking forward to taking on Redlynch.  Their coaching staff were proud of the boys with their improved attitude and commitment to training showing where it matters on the footy field. with a 30-10 win the game saw Payton Adams and Zeklyn Grogan-Ryan controlling their sides of the field in attack and the entire team in defence.

Keaton Morris off the bench made good runs up the middle and Man of the Match Jayden Ferris played outstanding at dummy half.  Caleb Ross and Josh Cranswick played well in the centres taking their training skills to the game.

Congratulations boys on a great game this shows what happens as a team when you play for each other.

UNDER 12

The Under 12 boys took on Kangaroo Gold on Saturday and in the first half the boys were still half asleep with Roos’ coming up with a converted try leading 6-4 at half time.

After a pep talk from the coach, the boys woke up with comeback tries by Wade Duncan, Austin Tayley and two tries to Lennox Schonenberger.

With a huge effort throughout the game by Callum Mather, the boys with their great defence and Cody Port with his line breaking runs earned them a 18-6 win at full time.  Man of the Match went to Callum Mather and Coaches award went to Cody Port. Well done boys.

UNDER 13

The Sharks Under 13s absolutely played the house down against Brothers on Saturday, coming away with a 14-10 win in a very tough battle.

With no reserves on the bench, they knew they would have to tough it out for the full hour. Great courage was shown by everyone on the team but man of the match honours went to Wayne Oui with Matty Chesterfield winning the players player.

UNDER 15

The Under 15 Sharks ran into a red hot Brothers outfit last Friday night at Mann St and were out muscled 52-6.

The first half of the match was very competitive and there were some great passages of play from both teams. Levi Williams moved into the five eight position and did a fine job, while Aiden Chesterfield was also outstanding for the Sharks.

The second half saw Brothers put their foot down and with their size and speed across the field piled on the tries and were simply too good. To the boys' credit, they didn’t back down from the Brothers big boys and can certainly be proud of the way they played.

Aiden Chesterfield was named man of the match for a giant effort.
