Report a pothole, they only get bigger!

By Roy Weavers

Ongoing heavy rain has caused pot holes on many roads in the Cairns, Port Douglas and Mossman region.

Cairns Regional Council has advised The Newsport to assure residents that they are aware of this and crews are working to patch potholes on a priority basis.

Any resident who notices a pothole in their street is encouraged to report it by contacting Cairns Regional Council’s customer service team on 4044 3044 (Cairns area) or 4099 9444 (Douglas area) or 1800 070 444.

Alternatively, details can be logged via Council’s website: www.cairns.qld.gov.au   Include the location of the damage, including street name, nearest intersection and any identifying buildings or landmarks.

A service request can then be forwarded to road maintenance crews.

As the Bruce Highway and Captain Cook Highway are managed by the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads, potholes on these roads should be reported by phoning DTMR on 132 380.

Motorists are asked to be patient as crews work to rectify damage to roads and to take care when driving in heavy rain.

Newsport staff, whilst relaxing at Paddy's Bar, after a hard day reporting around the community, discovered a series of potholes in Macrossan street made all the worse by the heavy bus traffic passing over them.  We have reported the location as requested.
