Reef series to reach millions

A documentary series based on the natural wonders of the Great Barrier Reef had its Australian premiere in Cairns last night ahead of its broadcast to millions of people worldwide.

The three-part series Great Barrier Reef is expected to reach a worldwide audience of 250 million viewers in more than 50 countries.

Supported by BBC, Discovery and Channel 9, the series has already been screened in the UK to rave reviews.

Mayor Val Schier said the flow-on effect from tourism was expected to be significant.

“People will see this documentary and be inspired to see the Reef for themselves, and we will welcome them,” she said.

The series has been produced by Digital Dimensions which has recently shifted its head office to Cairns, and is narrated by Karl Stefanovic who has given an exclusive interview for the upcoming issue of Port Douglas Magazine due for release next month.

Episode one of Great Barrier Reef will air on WIN this Sunday, March 11, at 6.30pm.
