Mixed fortunes for Junior Muddies

Under 12s

Under 12 Douglas Muddies travelled to Morrow Park, Tolga where the rain held off so the junior cricketers could play a 27/27 match against Atherton Wildhogs on Saturday.

Reuben Allison captained the Muddies team and Vincent Killeen opened the bowling with Vincent taking the first wicket on his third ball assisted by a catch from Ryan Doble, finishing with 1-15 off 3 overs.

Atherton’s run rate started ticking over as there were a few dropped catches and overthrows by the Muddies.

Top wicket taker of the match was Raine Sorensen with 2-7 off 3.  Other wicket takers were Hugo Corrie with 1-8 off 3, Daniel Davidson 1-13 off 3 and Luke Twomey 1-13 off 2.

Daniel Davidson took a couple of great catches and Hugo also took a catch. Atherton finished their 27 overs on 6/124.

The Muddies had quite a big chase considering they had a few of their older players absent.

Levi Trewick and Reuben Allison opened the batting with Levi retiring on 5 and Reuben going great guns until a tough LBW call stopped him on 8 runs.

Daniel Davidson retired on 8 and Keel Sorensen on 7 not out.  All of the players faced their fair share of 15 fair balls with only 4 wickets falling.

It was great to see most of the batters retiring but the runs didn’t accumulate quickly enough. The Muddies finished their overs on only 4/66.

Under 12s will play their final match on Saturday morning at Morrow Park, Tolga.

Under 16s

The Under 16 Muddies were scheduled to play a semi-final two-dayer at Port Douglas against United last weekend but the heavy rain caused the game to be cancelled.

As the Under 16 Muddies were second on the ladder they are now automatically through to the U16 Grand Final match to play against Atherton at Tolga on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 at Morrow Park, Tolga.

Douglas Cricket Association will be holding their end of season Junior and Senior Presentation Day on Saturday 24 March at 12 noon at the Port Douglas Sports Complex.
