Bill Chambers sails into Port
By Roy Weavers
Bill Chambers and The Hillbilly Goats will be performing at the Port Douglas Yacht Club on Thursday 5th April with support acts Leanne Tennant and our very own Kim Hurley from 6pm. He is then moving on to play up at The Highlander Tavern in Julatten for an intimate and acoustic dinner show on Easter Monday April 9th again from 6pm.
All the gigs in his far north Hillbilly 'Easter' sessions are FREE Entry.
Bill, who you know doubt already know, is father of super-Country-star Kasey Chambers is one of those growling singers who, according to his website, owes a substantial debt to both Bob Dylan and John Prine. Perhaps his style is a result of those early weathered years he spent roughing it in the outback with his family.
However there's much more to Bill Chambers than just being Kasey Chambers' dad. The patriarch of the Chambers Clan is considered by many to be Australia's premier alt-country guitarist. He can be a master of delicate picking on Dobro or Lap Steel and a demon on Slide.
He says' "I still play in Kasey's band when she's on the road and the gigs take us all over the world. That's where I get many of the stories for my songs".
He released his first DVD back in August this year entitled "Live at the Pub - Tamworth'. It features 20 tracks from his famous Tamworth sessions over the years and showcases many of his best original songs, his large collection of guitars and guest appearances by the likes of Shane Nicholson, Kevin Bennett and Kasey Chambers.
