Umpire focus in Douglas netball

Douglas Netball held an umpiring and coaching clinic last Tuesday for the final round before the school holidays.

The format started with a coaching clinic for all 12 to 14/Under players held by experienced Young Guns' players Jarney and Ange.

The Young Guns stars put the players through attack and defence skills passing on their valuable netball knowledge and a great opportunity for the younger players to meet and learn from the senior players.

The umpire education program was headed by umpire Lynne Kinrade and held over two time slots giving the learner umpires, junior and senior, practical training with umpire mentors on games played after their education session.

The teams played in a relaxed format mixing together as required which gave the teams an opportunity to play other teams outside of their grades.

Thanks Lynne Kinrade for running the program and to umpires Bonnie and Kyah Francis, Sascha Lowenstein-Jones, Cariter Bennett, Tiah McLean, Keely Harold, Leah Nash, Lana Baxter, Holly Brown, Dakota Bowen, Marley Cairns, Eleisha Mealing, Tayler Durie, Saisha Schonenberger, Shannon Lincoln, Jade Reed, Karla Logan, Mikaela Goodwin, Vanessa Wood, Jane Gwilliams and all senior umpires in training and mentors Marta Smith, Nichelle Pitt, Cassandra Hill, Aimee Watson, Dani Bellero, Corrine Durie and Alison Richardson.

When we return after the holidays Douglas Netball would like to introduce, after the last Senior game, a short umpire's rules discussion session in the club room to continue ongoing umpire education.

Need a tradie? Check out our Trades and Services Directory.

This will be held by Lynne Kinrade. She will be available to answer any umpiring questions/incidents that have arisen over your practical umpiring game.

The Senior Draw issued on Tuesday is subject to change with the umpiring, and any amendments will be emailed out and the draw will be posted each week on Facebook.

Special mention to best and fairest winner in Division 2 last week (12 June) for the Ring Ins team, Cath Baxter - well done!

Douglas Netball held its AGM last Tuesday. The meeting was chaired by Jenny Elphinstone in the absence of President Coral Deen (Douglas Netball members extend their collective best wishes to Coral and family who are currently away due to a family illness).

A new committee was elected:  President Sharon Beechey, Vice President Corrine Durie, Secretary Treveen Page, Treasurer Dani Bellero, Registrar Tracey Pashen, Junior Convenor Sharon Beechey, Publicity Officer Rachael Ramsay and Angela Pringle,  Fundraising/Sponsorship Officer Wolverines Team, Special Events Co-Ordinator Crocs Teams, General Committee Laura Gray.

Thanks to all who attended and to members who put their hands up to be a part of the Douglas Netball Association's Committee. We appreciate your assistance, without your time and efforts there would not be a netball competition.

Douglas Netball would like to wish all members a safe and happy holiday break. Games will resume Tuesday 10 July.
