Tiger quoll needs a name

The Wildlife Habitat in Port Douglas, has a new resident - a cute, sharp-teethed, but still nameless tiger quoll.

The new female has moved into a refurbished enclosure with hopes of breeding with an existing male.

Wildlife Manager Clare Anderson said the spotted quoll is considered an endangered species, not as common as their considerably smaller counterpart, the northern quoll.

“Also known as the spotted-tail quoll, it is mainland Australia's largest carnivorous marsupial, closely related to the Tasmanian Devil,” she said.

Wildlife Habitat has launched a competition to name the new quoll, with all submissions via the Opens external link in new windowFacebook page, closing Sunday 24 June 2012.

The winner will receive a Family pass to the park, with its famous Breakfast with the Birds or Lunch with the Lorikeets included.
