Port's Pie penchant

The mid-season break is now over and there’s one big telling story to come out of this hiatus in the season – clubs that come to Port Douglas end up on top of the ladder!

That’s right, the Pies are one game clear on top of the mountain and it only seems like yesterday we were all screaming to have Nathan Buckley stoned in a brutal and hysterical manner.

Those who laugh last tend to laugh longest and right now ‘Bucks’ is having a quiet chuckle to himself. Nothing needs to be said, in fact nothing has been said but you can read plenty into all the silence.

The press have said nothing, Malthouse has said nothing and even the fans have become uncharacteristically humble. We know why though don’t we?

Cheap, easy, and lasts longer - Check out our Classifieds.

The fat lady has a tendency to not sing on cue when it comes to this black and white army and for the first time the Pie faithful would rather be the hamster and outsmart Bart Simpson by not continually grabbing the electric pole!

One thing is very true however and that is that Collingwood have as much chance of winning this thing as anybody right now and I reckon the whole of Port Douglas, love 'em or hate 'em, has a soft spot for them that no one would dare admit. A soft spot for the Pies? Ah quit it!

With the Olympics quickly approaching I have one eye firmly on our basketball campaigns and I like what I see.

It’s going to be very hard for the Boomers to medal due to all the powerhouse Euro clubs (not to mention the Uncle Sams) but one nation will get lucky.

That’s right, it’s gonna take a stroke of luck to get that 50/50 whistle or get an injury break or for someone to upset someone for us to even consider winning our first basketball medal.

We have great players and supposedly a great, world class coach (good Lord) so why can’t it be in London? Go Boomers 7 and don’t forget – you make your own luck!
