Rumours are circulating that Richmond Football Club and one other AFL team will follow Collingwood's lead and head to Port Douglas, with a number of clubs due for their bye this weekend.

Other teams to have the bye this weekend include Carlton, Gold Coast Suns, Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, and St Kilda.

Collingwood premiership player Luke Ball told The Newsport the trip to Port Douglas for a mid-season training camp had been beneficial for players saying the journey north had "ticked a lot of boxes."

"The weather has been fantastic. It has been nice to escape the cold Melbourne weather and get a bit of sun on the body," he said.

With the AFL considering the possibility of two byes during the 2013 season, Port Douglas could position itself as base for future training camps, despite Collingwood's Director of Football Geoff Walsh saying there are currently no plans to return next year.
