Mixed bags for local shooters
by Steve Cruickshank
Saturday saw a good handful of faithful shooters turn up for yet another day at the range to test their eye in what was a very trying 600 metre range with a heavy mirage on the target.
Rick Mischlewski was the first to set up and start his ten shot match in the Full Bore comp with two free sighters. He shot two bull eyes and then went on to shoot a mix of 4’s, 5’s and V bulls to post a first round of 46/2 out of 50.
Jascha Gusmeroli was next down to shoot in the F Class comp (mechanically supported, scoped 308 rifle). Jascha was struggling to zero his scope on target with the first four shots going astray and then he shot a mixed bag with a final score of 38 out of a possible 60.
Steve Cruickshank was on the mound next in the F Class comp opening with a 4 and a 5. He cut the 4 and went on to post a first round score of 43 out of 60. Steve and Jascha were both having trouble with the extreme heat waves distorting the targets through the powerful telescopic sights.
Neil Attwood was next down for the Full Bore (manually supported with peep sights) comp in the first 10 shot match. Neil opened really well with a V bull and a Bulls Eye then went on to post a mediocre score of 39/1 out of 50.
Rob Wearne was the last contender down in the Full Bore comp, opening with a 3 and a 5. He cut the 3 and went on to post a fairly good first round score of 45/2.

Neil Attwood returned to the ground in his second match opening with a V bull and a 4 then went on to post a final score of 46/2 out of a possible 55.
Rob Wearne was again the last contender down on the mound to squeeze off 11 more shots to post a pretty average score of 46/0 out of a possible 55.
In the Full Bore comp it was Rick Mischlewski taking out the honours with 98/7 out of a possible 105 followed by Rob Wearne in second place with 91/2 and Neil Attwood in third with 85/3 out of 105.
In the F Cass comp in first place was Steve Cruickshank with 93 followed by Jascha Gusmeroli with 87 out of a possible 126.
In summary, a good day was had by all and a big thanks to the Marker and to the scorer.
All visitors are welcome at the range midway between Port Douglas and Mossman starting at 1pm every Saturday. We will not be having a shoot this Saturday due to the Archery Club's two day competition. We will resume normal shooting on 7 July.
