Mixed bag for shooters

Saturday saw a hand full of regular shooters turn up for another day at the range.


Norbert Schmidt was the first to take aim in the 400 metre F Class (mechanically supported with telescopic sights) 10 shot match.

Norbert opened with a perfect centre shot followed by a 5 which he opted to keep then went on to shoot a string of bulls eyes (6’s ) and dead centres (X’s) and a few 5’s to finish with 58/4out of 60.

Steve Cruickshank was next on the mound in the 308 F Class match. Steve cut his first two sighters and then went on to shoot a mixed bag of 4’s, 5’s and 6’s for a low first round score of 49/0.

Rob Wearne was next on the mound to take aim in the Full Bore (manually supported open sights) 308 10 shot match. Rob opted to cut his sighters and went on to shoot a pretty average score of 44/0 out of a possible 50.

Last on the mound was Neil Attwood in the Full Bore 400 metre match. Neil opened with two bulls eye sighters and then went on to shoot a mixed bag of 4’s and 5’s for a first round score of 46/0 out of a possible 50.

Norbert was back down for his second 400 metre 11 shot match, and he opened with two bulls eyes (6’s) and then let loose a string of 5’s, 6’s and dead centres (X) to finish with 63/3 out of 66.

Steve was next on the range for his second attempt in the 400 metre 11 shot match. Steve opened with 4’s which he cut then went on to shoot a much better round with 5’s and 6’s and one X, to finish 59/1.

Rob was back down for his second 400 metre Full Bore match opening with two 5’s which he kept, then went on to shoot another mixed bag of scores with 3’s,4’s,5’s and two V bulls to finish with 48/2.

Neil was back on the mound for his second range and he opened with a 4 and a 5. He cut the 4 and went on to shoot all over the place, not able to find the V bull he was looking for. Neil posted a disappointing second score of 38/0 out of a possible 55.

Norbert Schmidt posted a final score of 121/7 out of a possible 126 in the F Class competition followed by Steve Cruickshank with a very low final score of 108/1 out of a possible 126.

Rob Wearne took the honours in the Full Bore comp with a final tally of 92/2 out of a possible 105 followed by Neil Attwood with a below average final score of 84/0.

Target Shooting is held each Saturday at 1pm on the range half way between Port Douglas and Mossman on the Captain Cook Highway. Visitors are welcome to come and view or participate.
