Mistakes cost Under 15 Sharks

UNDER 15

The Under 15 Sharks made the familiar trip to Mann St last Friday night to take on their arch rivals Ivanhoes.

Sitting in fifth position on table the boys are capable of making the semi finals this year and with the opportunity to secure a place in the top four they had plenty to play for.

However, the same silly mistakes that have riddled their game all year appeared early on and they soon found themselves on the back foot as Ivanhoes took every opportunity offered to them and raced to an 18-0 lead after twenty minutes.

To the Sharks' credit, when they managed to control the football they gained good field position through Curtis Hober and Jake McCormacks surging runs in the middle of the ground and after several sets of six on the Ivanhoes line, finally scored before halftime courtesy of the hard running Jake McCormack making the score 18-4.

The second half saw frustration creep into the game resulting in three Ivanhoes players and one Mossman player getting sent to the sin bin.

The Sharks managed to get within a try of the opposition with ten minutes remaining, but some poor decisions saw the game slip away. Dwar Creek was outstanding at lock defending well and combining with Quinlyn making valuable metres.

Cutis Hobers again threw himself into everything, pulling off some crunching hits and powerful runs. Jack Dickson is proving to be one of the best centres in the age group and put in another great defensive effort.

The final score was 28-16. Jake McCormack scored twice and Dwar Creek scored once, Quinlyn kicked two goals, and Dwar Creek was awarded man of the match for his great effort.

UNDER 7

In Saturday games at Mossman Showgrounds, the Under 7s Brothers White didn’t show so the whole game was against Brothers Blue.

Man of the Match Fletcher MacDonald was strong in defence while Beau Paulke was the recipient of the Coaches award for his hard training ethic.  All up Mossman were the victors with 40-24 win.

Tries were scored by David Neller (2), Jack Hatfield (1), Wyatt Lourigan (6), Matthias Jackonia (1) and Jessie Frisina (1).  EJ Bowen, Jack Hatfield, Wyatt Lourigan and Matthias Jackonia were awesome at tackling, and Leilani Pitt who played her last game with the Sharks for 2012 was brilliant all over the field.

UNDER 8

The Under 8s had another great victory this weekend, defeating Brothers 24 to 16.  The Brothers' side had a fire in their belly and were determined to beat the Sharks but the Sharkies were just too good with tries from Kye Dury (2), Tyson Osborne, Malachi Jakonia, Brodie Francis and Kahlen Marr.

Determined ball running from Jayden earned him this week's Man of the Match and the Coaches Award went to the unstoppable Kye for his outstanding 26 tackles and two tries.

UNDER 9

The Mossman Under 9s were led by Man of the Match recipient Ethan Pitt who directed the team around very well. Lafe Hatfield had another outstanding game in attack and defence.

The team will have to put in a much bigger effort at training if they are to turn their season around.

The Mossman Junior Rugby League Club would like to thank Keith Pitt and family for all of their help over the years and wish them safe travelling during their adventure and we look forward to their return next year.

UNDER 10

The Under 10s won on a forfeit against Brothers Blue.  They had a scratch match against the Under 9s.

UNDER 11

Under 11s win against Suburbs was again built on poor ball discipline but outstanding defence. With the local boys undefeated and heading off to Townsville for the Laurie Spina Cup, the team really has to learn to complete their sets as their defence will be tested.

Led by Man of the Match Lachlan Buzza who heads the team in defence every week, his hard running has been a feature all year, along with Billy Kadwell who must lead yardage in the comp and Tom Walker who really seems to love it when the game is on the line.

Coach's mention to new Sharky Jai Miller who made some good tackles and Payton Adams who turned over the ball late in the game but made up for it with a classic front on tackle to turn over possession.

Coaching staff would like to thank all people involved with fundraising to get the team to Townsville.  Win or lose the boys will do themselves and the club proud.

UNDER 12

The Under 12s were back on form on Saturday against Kangaroos. Austen Tayley was sensational and almost unstoppable.

Kangaroos started out really strong, but the Mossman boys showed them that they were bigger and fitter.  Anthony Slawson was tackling hard and Scotty Bowen took some great catches in his first game of the season.

Tries to Zachary Osborne (2), Austen Tayley (2), Phoenix Solomon (1), and conversions by Zachary and Trazane Cobb-Fischer saw the Sharks win 24 -14.

UNDER 13

The Under 13s had their first loss of the season going down to reigning premiers, Kangaroos, 30-14.

The boys failed to complete the first set from the kick off, which led to a Kangaroos try in the first five minutes. This set the tone for the next 20 minutes and Roos ran in four more unanswered tries before Wayne Oui crashed over to get the Sharks on the board.

The Sharks tried clawing their way back in the second half but the deficit was too great and the boys were just too tired from defending to catch up with Roos.

Man of the match went to the big little man, Elijah Royee, who played his last game for the Sharks and players player again went to Wayne Oui.

The Under 13 Sharks want to wish Elijah the best, it was great having you in the team and we will definitely miss you.
