Magpies swoop on Port

Port Douglas is buzzing with the news that the Collingwood Football Club has chosen Port Douglas for their mid-season training camp.

The club, which evokes more love/hate passion than any other in the AFL, will bring the majority of its squad to Port Douglas for the three-day camp which will provide players with a chance to escape Melbourne's winter cold.

Collingwood's media department were playing their cards close to their chest when The Newsport contacted them earlier this week, and have not disclosed the name of the resort the players, and a handful of training staff, will be staying at.

It is believed the team will travel north during the middle of next week.

In 2011, Collingwood sent a handful of players, including Brownlow Medalist Dane Swan, to high altitude training in Arizona. However, club Football Manager Geoff Walsh said Arizona was not considered an option this year with many players suffering long-term and season-ending injuries.

Collingwood play a revived Melbourne on Monday in their traditional Queens Birthday clash.
