Crocs back on winners list

Port Douglas Crocs journeyed to Cazalys on Saturday to take on Manunda Hawks.  Conditions were near perfect for football with warm sunshine and a slight breeze.

Skip Gribbon pounced on a loose ball in the opening minute of the game to register the Crocs' first goal.

The over-use of handball by the Crocs' boys allowed the Hawks in for two majors. Jackson Brown responded for Port which lifted the team spirit.

The Hawks' better positional play enabled them to take a two goal lead at quarter time despite Crocs' defender Joel Lawler defending well.

The Crocs kicked into the wind in the second quarter and with great work from Gavin Jacks and Mark Nuggin they levelled the scores.

Both teams played excellent football in patches; first one side ascendant and then the other.  By mid-way through the second term the signs for the Crocs were good.  Kurt Bradshaw, Mark Nuggin, Dylin Wearmouth and Kurt Cadman all cranked it up a notch and their forward thrusts put five goals on the board for the Crocs.

The Crocs were starting to get more of the ball in the third quarter.  Luke Serong goaled after a 50 metre penalty and Port were well on their way to victory.

Goals to Dylin Wearmouth and Skip Gribbon had the supporters in an ecstatic mood.  Dylin kicked another and then Jackson Brown.  A great quarter by the Crocs - faster, fitter, stronger ending with another five goal term.

The Hawks drew first blood in the final quarter, but Skip Gribbon continued to play an absolute blinder, crashing through packs and sprinting away from his opponents.

The Crocs maintained their four goal lead and refused to wilt.  They continued to play great, intense football to the end.
