‘Ovation’ the Opera show

Putting the fun back into tradition…

La Prima Opera is coming to the Cairns Civic Theatre with a lineup of some of Australia’s finest opera singers.


‘Ovation’ is a show packed with all the hits and highlights of opera that everyone knows, even if they have never set foot in an opera house.  It’s the famous tunes that are part of pop culture like Nessun Dorma which is currently on the ‘slow motion’ beer ad.  There is even a tribute to the AFL.

Written by Philip Wheeldon, compered by Christopher McKenna with Len Vorster at the piano and led by Australian born international soprano, Alison Rae Jones, mezzo soprano Caroline Vercoe and Oz Opera star tenor, Jason Wasley.  

‘Ovation’ includes favourite arias, duets, trios and quartets from Don Giovanni, Carmen, La Boheme, La Traviata, Lakme, Aida, Die Fledermaus, Porgy and Bess and more.  

With special guest artist, Queensland tenor Bradley Daley who recently starred as Curly in Opera Australia’s Bruce Beresford directed, Of Mice and Men for which he won a coveted Green Room Award. 

Bradley is based in Burleigh Heads where you can catch him paddle boarding between singing engagements around the world.

La Prima Opera Company was founded in 2008 by Alison Rae Jones when she returned to Australia after 12 years based in London performing throughout Europe.  

La Prima Opera is fast gaining a reputation for presenting high quality, accessible and entertaining opera shows to the broadest audience imaginable.
