Friday night saw a game between Douglas United and Marlin Coast in the FNQ Football Third Division at Marlin Coast. The game would be a fairly even affair with Douglas just edging the game in terms of possession and chances, but unfortunately for the Dragons the scoreline would end all square.

Douglas looked bright from the start on Friday night, pressing all over the pitch and trying to pass the ball around when in possession. Neil Burcombe in the middle of the park was proving to be a very big presence to Douglas in the midfield, communicating to the other players very well and keeping possession.

Douglas would feel slightly aggrieved at the first goal. Nick Despres, trying to clear the ball out from defence for Douglas, was seemingly hacked from behind, however a foul was not called.

As Nick was unable to clear the ball a Marlin Coast player let off a shot for goal, seemingly quite a poor effort somehow managed to trickle into the far corner to take the game perhaps undeservedly to 1-0.

This did not knock the Douglas confidence in keeping the ball though as they started to maintain possession very well straight after the restart.

Before the half Udo Soltwedel showed some good footwork on the ball before finding a man who is bang in form at the moment, Adam Wright. Adam calmly took control of the ball and slotted one home for another consecutive week.

After the half, chances did not come along to often for either team. This was not helped when a substantial amount of time was lost due to a bad head injury for a Marlin Coast player. The second half would only be played for around 30 minutes.

Marlin Coast had a glorious opportunity when a corner was not dealt with by Douglas and Heath Melton playing through injury had to pull off an amazing save to keep the game at 1-1.

Adam Wright almost got himself on the score sheet again when some selfish play let him get the chance to let a shot go but unfortunately this time the effort was easily saved by the keeper.

Douglas had a chance late on to take the win when they counter attacked from a set piece with only seconds remaining. However a couple Douglas players past up the opportunity to pass the ball when it needed to be played resulting in the breakaway fading out.

The "Paddy's Irish Bar" man of the match award would go to Kevin Hamm who had a great game at the back for the Dragons.

Douglas have a home game this Friday against JCU at Cassowary park, 8pm kick off.
