Talented netballers in rep carnival
The Douglas Netball Association competed in the Fowler’s Group Regional Representative Carnival at the YMCA in Smithfield last Sunday.
The 12 and 14/Under squads were chosen earlier in the year, they were coached and trained by Junior Convenor and Satellite Coach, Sharon Beechey, the players undertook extra training and played up a division in the Tuesday competition each week to prepare the teams.
The teams played against some very strong competition, the benchmark teams are Cairns based, YMCA and the Cairns Netball Association, both are long standing associations catering for a strong player base with large numbers playing in their respective junior competitions.

The 14/Under Representative team lost just two games and came third overall, with Cairns first and YMCA running second. The 12/under Rep Team lost three games over the day and ended up fourth, with Cairns first, YMCA second, and Mareeba third.
The Douglas teams are proving to be very competitive as the teams they played against put their strongest sides on court against us, this is testament to a successful representative program, where the players need to commit 100% to training, good behaviour and their team.
The “Dare to Develop a Diamond” squad was chosen from the 12/Under Representative teams. The program is a Netball Australia initiative for the development of 11-13 year olds, and the players are identified by the region's Satellite Coaches and will undertake a skills coaching session next Sunday at the YMCA along with trainee Satellite Coaches.
From Douglas, Lana Baxter and Aleesha Viola were chosen in this year's “Dare to Develop a Diamond” Squad, congratulations girls! Thanks to Cassandra Hill and Marta Smith for umpiring over the day.
