Schmidt, Wearne share honours

by Steve Cruickshank

Saturday saw another beautiful afternoon with a handful of members turn up to participate in a 500 metre double shoot at the Mossman range.

First down on the mound was Norbert Schmidt shooting in the F Class category (sandbag or mechanical rest and telescopic sights). Norbert opened with a 4 and a 5 only to cut them and then he went on to squeeze off a string of 5’s and 6’s to post a score of 56/3 super Bulls.

Neil Attwood was next in the Full bore category (manually supported with open sights). Neil opened with a 4 and a 5, he cut them and then went on to let loose a mixed bag of 4’s and 5’s to post a score of 42/1 Super V Bull.

Rob Wearne was next in the Full Bore comp. Rob opened with two low scores, cut them and then went on to shoot a first round score of 47/1 V Bull out of a possible 50.

Norbert was again on the mound to continue his fine shooting. This time Norbert opened with a 5 and a 6, he cut the 5 and kept the 6 and went on to squeeze off another impressive score to post a second round tally of 63/3 super Bulls out of a possible 66.

Neil was back down for his second range. Neil opened with a Super V Bull and a 4 which he kept and then went on to post a mediocre score of 43/1 Super V Bull out of a possible 55.

Rob Wearne was back for his second range and opened with a 4 and a 5. He cut the 4 and kept the 5 and then went on to shoot a very good second round to post a score of 53/1 Super Bull out of a possible 55 in the Full Bore comp.

Next on the mound was a young novice shooter to try his hand at this very challenging sport. Cristian Rossow took a Full Bore rifle to open with two 4’s and then a 2. Cristian then tried his hand with an F Class rifle (sand bagged and scoped) and he shot a very good group comprising of 6, 5, X, 6, 4, X, 6, 6, (X is a super bull).

Norbert Schmidt took the honours in the F Class double range with a final tally of 119/6.

Rob Wearne took the honours in the Full Bore double range with a final score of 100/2 followed by Neil Attwood with a final tally of 87/2.

The club  would like to thank the markers and the scorers and would also like to invite anyone who is interested in this exacting sport to come along to the range on Saturdays at 1pm. The Rifle
Club is situated half way between Port Douglas and Mossman on the Cook Highway.
