Sarrita King to paint in Port

WHEN: Friday 20 and Saturday 21 July. Morning session 11am-2pm, afternoon session 4pm-6pm.

Ngarru Gallery is thrilled to announce a coup for the region, with internationally renowned artist Sarrita King appearing in residence for the first time in FNQ. She will be painting for one weekend only at Ngarru Gallery, Port Douglas.

Sarrita King is the elite of younger generation art, daughter of the late William King. Along with her sister Tarisse, Sarrita has taken the world by storm, having exhibited extensively in Australia as well as being featured in Europe and the US.

With her father passing away so young, Sarrita is one of the first modern examples of a young generation artist becoming a full custodian of traditional Indigenous story. As such we are seeing an innovative contemporary twist on ancient Tjukurrpa, as traditional stories are being painted from a modern, urban perspective.

Win big in the region's Best Photo Competition.

Ngarru Gallery in Port Douglas specialises in works from the elite of Australia’s indigenous artists, yet also cultivates a number of aspiring and highly promising Aboriginal artists from both the desert and urban regions.

This is a fantastic occasion for all residents and tourists in the region to visit the gallery and experience such a significant event for FNQ. It is an opportunity to meet Sarrita and watch her paint the stories of her ancestors that have seen her stamp her position on the international art market.

There will be two sessions each day on Friday 20 and Saturday 21 July. The morning session will run from 11am-2pm and then the afternoon 4pm-6pm.
