Raiders stop Wanderers in their tracks

The Rattle 'n' Hum Reef Raiders played their last home game of the year in front of a large crowd on the weekend against Wanderers.

The Raiders knew they needed to win to start pushing for a final four spot. They did that with Grae Gilbert scoring within the first five minutes.

Not to be out done, Simon Chick scored straight after with a clever chip and chase see him get five points on the board.

After the great start the Raiders started to slow up and Wanderers' defence sharpen up, but the Raiders played the percentages and this saw them camp down into the opposition's line before Ethan Hoffman scored out wide.

Some well controlled ball from the forwards the backs put together a move and this resulted in Chick grabbing his second try. But just before half time fatigue was setting in and this saw the Wanderers get over for a try.

After the break the Raiders didn't start well with Wanderers scoring first and giving them a sniff. But the Raiders picked up their act and this saw Tim make some big tackles and charging runs.

With the wanderers' defence tiring this let the Raiders play some running rugby with Liam Cowe and Nick Sherston scoring tries.

The final score was 34 to 12 to the Raiders, so with a bonus point win the Raiders will head into their final three matches on the road with confidence, starting this weekend at Innisfail.

The players that stood out this week were Marty Paulger and Nick Sherston who had one of his best games of the year. The Paddy's Man of the Match went to Clint Kachel who backed up from last week.
