Division 10 Cr Julia Leu met with representatives of Chamber of Commerce, Tourism Port Douglas Daintree (TPDD) and Advance Cairns on Friday to discuss a process to bring the Port Douglas economy back to prosperity.

According to a statement from the parties involved, all agreed that a broad range of people with different skills and experience will be needed throughout the process "as clear goals and strategy evolves."

A consultant is to be employed to assist the process by facilitating this project. The Newsport believes the first meeting with a consultant from Kleinhardts will take place this Friday.

The group said the consultants will be involved in a range of regional issues, and have been asked to help the process including identifying "kick start contributors with differing skills, experience and investment in Port Douglas."

A separate meeting of business people including Bolt Burchill Tranter's Martin Tranter, as well as Cr Leu, occurred on Tuesday night. Details of what was discussed are not yet known, however, with the recent retail taskforce established it is clear that individuals from a variety of businesses are also working towards the revitalisation of Port Douglas.

“We must seize the momentum and sense of urgency that currently exists," Cr Leu said.

"We need the support and input from all businesses, organisations and stakeholders. No one group can achieve what is required and all business groups recognise the importance of driving the economy for the benefit of all the Douglas region.”
