United stand tall as Muddies fall

An enthusiastic group of Port Douglas Mudcrabs supporters journeyed to Cazaly's Stadium on Friday night to watch their combined B and C Grade cricket team take on the might of United's A Graders in a Twenty 20 match.

Held under lights on a beautifully manicured Cazaly's surface, United batted strongly in the first innings thanks mainly to Curry who gave plenty of it to Port's bowlers before being caught behind on 64 off the bowling of Ben Vikionkorpi.

Opener Smith was out for a duck, bowled by Lucas, and Porta was Vikionkorpi's second victim, also bowled for just 9.

Brady batted strongly for his 38 before popping one up to Simon Cody who took a simple catch off the bowling of Alex Bendle. March saw United's innings reach 164 with 37 of his own which included four boundaries.

Glen Ives and Josh McConnell opened for the Muddies and lost Ives early for a duck. McConnell was showing strong resistance despite Vikionkorpi making just 2, and a partnership between he and Bendle gave the Muddies some hope of a victory.

When McConnell lost his wicket on 23 off 23 balls, with the score on 3/71 a collapse of epic proportions saw the next three wickets fall with the score at 73.

Bendle was the Muddies' highest scorer making 41 off 33 balls with five boundaries including a six, but it wasn't enough for the travelling Port team who were all out for 100.
