U16 Muddies topple top team

The Under 16 Douglas Muddies played a one dayer at Port Douglas Sports complex on Saturday morning against top of the ladder team United.

Captain David Coulthard won the toss and elected to bat with the opening batsmen for Muddies being Glen Ives and Ashley Davidson.

Both batsmen played some great shots to retire at half innings with Glen on 59 not out and and Ashley on 13 not out.  David Coulthard and Ben Shrimpton then went in to bat and David was unlucky to be caught early at mid-wicket.

Ben proceeded to play out the innings and get to 40 not out taking the Muddies to 5/134 after 32 overs.

The Muddies' opening bowlers were Kaiden Sorensen and Hayden D’Addona. Although no wickets were taken by the openers displayed some economical bowling with 0/8 and 0/15 off three overs respectively.

First drop bowler Michael Schulz started off the wicket taking with Michael finishing his overs with 2/16.  His first wicket was assisted by a great catch from Glen Ives and the second wicket he bowled straight on the wickets.

Glen also made a run out as did Kaiden with the great assistance of wicketkeeper Ethan McCullough.

Other wicket takers were Tom Goodall on 2/6, Ben Shrimpton also took a wicket, David Coulthard took 1/10 taking out United’s valuable top run scorer at a crucial time in the match.

Sean Evans bowled 1/5 ceasing United’s run chase at 115 at the 28th over.
