Tight finish for U12 Muddies

The Under 12 Douglas Muddies played Mareeba All Stars at Borzi Park, Mareeba on Saturday. Ashton Davenport captained the Muddies team and the opposition won the toss and elected to bat first.

Nathan Deuble and Ryan Doble opened the bowling for the Muddies team with some fantastic economical bowling.  Nathan took a wicket on the third ball and proceeded to finish his three overs on 3/18.

Ryan also bowled three overs and produced 0/7 one of which was a maiden over. Although no other wickets were taken all players produced some tight bowling with Levi Trewick 0/3, Keel Sorensen 0/9, Luke Twomey 0/8, Tully Cartwright 0/7, Raine Sorensen 0/9, and Ashton Davenport and Bryce Fabiani both 0/12.

Mareeba finished their 27 overs on 4/114.

Muddies opening batsmen were Daniel Davidson and Keel Sorensen who faced their share of fair balls to both retire.  Luke Twomey and Tully Cartwright were next in to bat and Luke retired on two and Tully also retired on a top score of 33.

Nathan Deuble replaced Luke at the crease and was unlucky to be run out without facing a ball.  Levi Trewick retired on 4 and Bryce Fabiani on 2.

With two overs remaining and 10 runs needed to win the match the pressure was on the retiring batsmen to try and make the final runs.

Daniel made a couple more runs before being bowled out on a total of 7.  Keel then went in and made a couple more runs before being bowled out on a total of 11.

Luke returned to bat and with the idea of some quick running to make the opposition’s score he was run out leaving Tully and Levi to finish the last over.

With a few wides and no balls from Mareeba in that over the boys did some quick running to get the Muddies team over the line to win the match by 4 runs on 7/118.
