The bar has certainly been set high to kick off 2012 with over 40 amazing images from nearly 20 photographers captured and posted on the Best Photo Competition page.

The variety continues to spread like the tomato sauce in Hayley Close's 'Condiments' and we are welcoming new photographers each month.

For something new this month, and taking up your suggestion, our Most Popular Photo category will feature what we believe is the best photo from each entrant.

It's then over to the public to decide which one they like best by voting in the poll on the Best Photo Competition page.

Voting for January's comp closes on Thursday 9 February so have your say.

Don't forget to post your comments on the page as well. Whether it's saying why you love a particular photo (including your own) or how we can make the competition better, we love seeing your feedback.

There are generous prizes on offer to those lucky enough to be judged the best photos of the month. Here they are:
