Surprise guests at Muddies match

The Under 12 Douglas Muddies were very lucky to play a match last Saturday against Mareeba Allstars due to the heavy rain and storms that began earlier that morning.

Both teams arrived at the scheduled Mossman High school and after a couple of quick calls, agreed to relocate the match to a much sunnier Mount Molloy sporting grounds.

Muddies Captain Tully Cartwright lost the toss and the Muddies were sent in to bowl first.  Opening bowlers were Daniel Davidson and Nathan Deuble with Vincent Killeen taking the first wicket of the day.

Bowling figures were Nathan Deuble 2-11, Raine Sorensen 1-5, Vincent Killeen 1-6, Ashton Davenport 1-6, Ryan Doble 1-9, Keel Sorensen 1-10 and Bryce Fabiani also took a wicket.

Keel also make two fantastic run outs and assisted catches were made by Hugo Corrie, Tully, Vincent, Ryan and Daniel finishing the opposition’s 27 overs on 9/115.

Cheap, easy, and lasts longer. Check out The Newsport Classifieds.

Daniel Davidson and Hugo Corrie then proceeded to open the batting starting off the innings with some great hits.  Hugo top scored on 28 not out and Daniel on 6 not out.

The middle order didn’t do too well at all until Tully Cartwright came in and achieved 16 and Keel on 9 from 13 balls until they were both caught out.

The Muddies couldn’t quite get over the line though falling short at 6/96 at the end of the innings.

The Under 12 teams and their parents also received a friendly visit from MP Bob Katter and Candidate for Cook Lachlan Bensted.

Whilst there Mr Katter rang former Australian Test Cricketer Carl Rackemann who spoke to the boys on speaker phone asking questions about the teams. It was a fun and friendly finish to the day.

The Under 16 Douglas Muddies were due to play the second half of a two-dayer against Atherton at Port Sports complex but were unable to do so due to the continuing showers and very wet outfield.

As the Atherton team were ahead in runs from the Saturday before on 9/95 and the Muddies were only on 5/78 the Muddies were disappointed to concede defeat and lose their top position on the ladder.

Next Saturday will see the U16 Muddies play Rovers in a one-dayer at Port Douglas.  A win from this match will see the local team achieve a spot in the semi-finals the following week.

Team mate David Coulthard is currently away in Tasmania playing in the Queensland team at the Australian National Cricket Championships.
