Fourth anniversary of apology
Queenslanders are being urged to reflect on the fourth anniversary of the National Apology to the Stolen Generation this week.
Member for Cook Jason O'Brien said the anniversary was a chance to consider the contribution of the first Australians, while recognising past injustices.
“On 13 February 2008 former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd apologised on behalf of the Australian Government to the Stolen Generation,” he said.
“This was an historic day for Australia and for Queensland, reminding us all of the importance of reconciliation between Indigenous people and the wider community.

“Individuals, families and communities suffered devastating loss, grief and damage as a result of these past wrongs.
“While we can’t change what happened in the past, we can ensure that we all work together to empower Indigenous Queenslanders and help them to build stronger communities.”
In 2010 the Bligh Labor Government amended the Queensland Constitution to acknowledge the more than 140,000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who call Queensland home.
