Big punt pays off in Taipans win
A Cairns punter put $5,000 on the Taipans to win in Perth on Sunday night which was paying $4.50 and that bloke is now struggling to fit his wallet back in his strides. Wow, what a win!
I looked at the schedule this time last week and thought it was highly likely the Snakes would fall out of the four this round but hanging tough in WA keeps them at fourth and a game clear from Townsville (fifth).
Beating Perth in Perth is possibly the hardest mission in basketball, especially when your road form has been sketchy so well done to Fearney and his men.
It also brings the Wildcats within striking distance on the ladder and their top two aspirations have become a bit wobbly. If they can keep this up Cairns may not only be host to its first ever MVP (Jamar Wilson) but coach Fearne might also get the top gong of 'Coach of the Year.'
The other great result for Cairns was lowly Sydney knocking off Townsville. Shane "Hammer' Heal was appointed interim coach during the week and the ex-King playing legend didn't disappoint in his first outing as a non-playing coach.
He also did the Taipans faithful a huge favour by sending our local foe plummeting down the ladder and giving Cairns some breathing space. Thanks Hammer!
A lot of people don't like Shane Heal but I love the bloke (as much as a heterosexual bloke can love another male). He's had some money issues of late but it hasn't stopped him from jumping into the big man's shoes once again and try and get his beloved Kings back as a contender.

His last two seasons in the league brought home wooden spoons so he certainly has his doubters, but in true Heal fashion he's gonna back up his talk and have another red hot crack.
So don't be surprised if the Kings start shaping the four with some upset wins and the Hammer becomes a permanent fixture down there in Sydneyville. Good luck mate - there's always a bit more excitement in the league with you in it.
Gold Coast continue to be the form side of the competition at the moment after accounting for Wollongong twice and a top two finish is now a huge reality for them.
Adelaide added to Melbourne's woes and reigning champs NZ continue on their winning ways.
I caught the Tigers vs 36ers on TV on Saturday night and Melbourne have serious issues. The recruitment of Trev Gleeson to coach and him stealing our nucleus from last year (Ubaka, Dillon and Dorsey) reminds me of Vossy of the Bribane Lions recruiting Fevola - DISASTROUS!!
What on paper looked very clever has turned into an absolute debacle and I only have two words to say on the issue - SUCKED IN!
The Tigers won't be seeing playoff action this season and the Taipans probably will so the brains trust up here certainly replaced these guys well.
Those who laugh last laugh longest.
Go Snakes!
