Accused named but case adjourned

As reported on The Newsport yesterday, Tristan Bowen, 19, the man charged with allegedly king-hitting Port Douglas man Matthew Manns last month, has had his Grievous Bodily Harm charge adjourned.

Mr Bowen will now appear in Mossman Magistrates Court on 10 May.

After undergoing surgery on his broken jaw Mr Manns, 21, returned to his home town in Wodonga (Victoria) to recuperate.

The Newsport spoke with Matthew's mother, Maz Manns, who said her son's physical injuries were healing, however it may take longer for his emotional wounds to mend.

Ms Manns said Matthew is now able to eat cold vegetables, a marginal improvement on his previous mashed diet, and will undergo dental work to repair his teeth once his jaw has shown greater improvement.

She said that Matthew was contemplating his future and is yet to decide if he is going to return to Port Douglas despite his love for the tropical lifestyle.

75 names have been added to the "Keep Port Safe" petition.

Meanwhile, Keagan Spratt, 22, also has his case adjourned. Mr Spratt will reappear in Mossman Magistrates Court on 7 March on one charge of Public Nuisance and three charges of Assault or Obstructing Police.
