Schild, Gusmeroli share honours
by Steve Cruickshank
Saturday saw a hot, humid afternoon with a light mirage and south easterly breeze for the shooters to contend with.
First on the 400 metre mound was Gus Gusmeroli shooting in the F Class division (mechanically supported, telescoped 308). Gus opened with a 3 and a4 as his sighter’s which he cut, then he went on to squeeze off some impressive shots with a mixed bag of 6’s,5’s and a few 4’s with one super bulls eye to post a first round score of 50/1 out of a possible 60.
Veteran shooter Ron Schild was on the mound next in the Full Bore division (manually supported 308 with open sights). Ron opened with a 4 and a 3 as his sighter’s, Ron cut them and then went on to shoot some very good shots with two V Bulls (dead centres) to post a first round score of 44/2 out of a possible 50.
Back on the mound for the second 400 metre shoot was Gus-Meroli in the F Class comp. Gus opened with a 4 and a 5,he cut the 4 and then he went on to shoot a fairly good round, considering he has only been shooting for a very short time. Gus posted a second round score of 53 out of a possible 66.
Ron Schild was back for his second 400 metre round in the Full Bore comp. Ron opened with a 4 and a 2 which he cut and then went on to shoot some pretty average shots peppered with two V Bulls in the 11 shot match. Ron posted a second range score of 47/2 out of a possible 55.
In summary, a good afternoon was had by all, as having only two shooters means that the marker has to only lower and raise the target 50 times and the shooters can finish much earlier.
Ron Schild won the Full Bore comp with a final tally of 91/4 out of a possible 105 with Gus Gusmeroli taking honours in the F Class with a final score of 103/1 out of a possible 126.
The Club meets every Saturday at 1pm at the Rifle Range situated half way between Port and Mossman on the Cook Highway,
All visitors are most welcome to come and try their hand at this very relaxed sport, the slower the heart rate, the better chance of squeezing off that perfect shot.
This Saturday will possibly be our last shoot for the year of 2012.
