Cairns Regional Council advises that demolition of the final building to be removed from the Port Douglas waterfront is under way.

Demolition is the first stage of works under the Port Douglas Waterfront Master Plan.  Buildings alongside Dickson Inlet (1, 3 and 5 Ashford Avenue) have been removed and this area returned to public open space.

Perimeter fencing has been installed around the building at 2-4 Dixie Street and safe removal of asbestos is being carried out this week until Friday 21 December 2012.

Demolition works will then start again after the Christmas-New Year holiday period and is expected to be completed by February 2013, weather permitting.

For safety reasons, no public or unauthorised access will be permitted to the site during these works.

Demolition and site remediation works are programmed to avoid key events and weekends.
