Christmas comp winners

Local businesses have helped spread the Christmas cheer, and three of these will receive an early present as winners of The Newsport's 'Christmas-ify Your Business' competition.

Bringing colour to the region's shopping strips gives a boost to a customer's shopping experience, and we take our hats off to those who have made an effort dress up their 'shop' in the lead up to Christmas.

Taking the top prize of a $500 Newsport advertising package is Dave's Takeaway in Macrossan Street.

The man himself says he was keen to do his best to make Port Douglas a brighter place this festive season.

"We need the spirit. I remember years ago the Council used to decorate the street, where it doesn't now so there's really nothing," Dave said.

"Last year, our first year of business in Port Douglas, we just found it didn't seem like Christmas, so this year we said 'let's get Christmassy and decorate it all'.

"The kids come in here and they love it. We've got the little dancing Santa which the kids play with while they're waiting for their chips.

The two runner-up prizes of $250 Newsport advertising packages were awarded to Natural clothing in Port Village Shopping Centre, and, proving you don't need a shopfront to get into the Christmas spirit, Grub's Personalised Trike Tours.

Thanks to everyone who entered, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
