Buckets' bullies Rovers
by Dave Johnson
Last weekend saw Muddies Blue head down to Griffiths Park in Cairns for our clash with the Rovers. Simon 'tails always fails' Cody lost the toss and Rovers elected to bat.
Adam Lucas opened up with a maiden before 'Dangerous' Dave Johnson, who has had a few lean weeks, bowled the perfect top of off delivery to remove the opening bat with his first ball.
With an early wicket there was a sniff of blood and the Muddies were alive in the field.
Lucas continued on solidly for a great 1/9 off his 4 overs, with Johnson collecting another two wickets to finish with 3/12 off 4 overs.
First change and in his first game for the year Mitch Driver collected 2/22 off his allotted 6 overs including a sharp catch to Cody in slips.
But the real bowling story was Garry 'Buckets' Postans whom in his second over took three wickets all bowled and was unlucky to have a four hit off his Hat-trick ball as the field had closed in attempting to snare a catch.
Postans then finished with 4/18 off 5 overs including their top scorer who smashed a catch to Rob Gaul at cover.
With the Rovers' innings closed at 63 it was the Muddies' batters turn to do some work.
Keith 'Golden Arm' Taylor and Rob Gaul opened up for the Muddies and after Taylor faced out a maiden over, Gaul had the old rush of blood first ball and was duly bowled, bringing Driver in to bat.
Driver and Taylor put on 14 before Taylor was unlucky to be given out LBW after getting a healthy edge.
With Shane Gillespie coming to the crease, Driver was getting his eye in before creaming a huge six followed by a couple of fours before chasing one too many and skying a catch to mid-off for 26 having also claimed man of the match honours.
Gillespie then proceeded to make short work of the runs including four consecutive boundaries to finish the game scoring his 30 at almost a run a ball and collecting two votes. Postans picked up the last vote.
