Blue Sunday

This week saw the Muddies Blue at home against United in a double header for club, with the Green team playing in the afternoon.

Winning the toss and electing to bowl on a nice grassy pitch had the fast bowlers excited, and with the great Adam Lucas hanging up the boots to work in the mines after this game he was keen to get into it.

He showed his class taking just five balls to claim the first wicket of the match, he then bowled solidly but without luck to finish with 1/14 off 8 overs.

Dangerous Dave started waywardly with three wides and a four before getting lucky with a chop on off a wide ball to open his account before finding his line and length.

Dave returned solid figures of 4/23 off 6 overs which could have been a 5-for had he not dropped a caught and bowled chance early in his last over.

'Buckets' Postans then came on to bowl and got immediate results with the United captain hitting a solid catch straight to Lucas who duly took his second catch of the day.

This left the visitors scrambling at 6/34, and after taking 1/8 of his first over including a good collection of wides, tidied up his act with 4 maidens to finish on 1/10, with the help of some great team fielding including a run out from Rob Gaul.

It was an awesome team effort to wrap up United for 67, especially from Vickas 'run-rate' Chandra claiming 2/1 off his only over to close the innings.

With only 68 to chase the Blues were confident but knew there was still work to be done, especially after losing Keith Taylor early.

Mitch Driver, after picking up 1/19 of his bowling, chipped in with a handy 11 to help set up the win, but with Sam Hodgson finding some great form carrying his bat for 37 including the winning runs with a 4, he was duly awarded man of the match honours with Dangerous picking up 2 votes.

With two weeks off over Christmas the next game will be on the 6 January 2013 against Atherton at Morrow Park.

Have a great Christmas and Happy New Year to all our sponsors and supporters.
