Best Photo Comp just gets bigger!

It's fitting that a photo of one of the biggest events this region has ever seen has taken the top prize in The Newsport's Best Photo Competition for November.

Last month's solar eclipse was a photographer's dream. Four Mile Beach in Port Douglas looked more like a scene from the Olympic Stadium as thousands of flashes lit up the darkness.

But in the minds of the judging panel there were no better images captured on that day (or at least entered into the Best Photo Competition) than Louise Coghill's 'Total Eclipse.'

For those who witnessed the eclipse, no doubt this image sparks memories of where you were on the morning of 14 November.

Congratulations Louise, you've won the first prize from Imagebank Australia of a 30cm x 46cm acrylic print valued at $130 PLUS $50 cash.

For anyone who's got a favourite pic hidden away on their computer or hard drive, why not give it the recognition it deserves? Jump on the Imagebank Australia website and you'll have it mounted on your wall for all to see in no time!

Second prize went to a competition newcomer, but the subject of the photo is an old favourite. Damian Meadows' 'Stormy Sugar Wharf' was judged to be November's runner-up, and he'll get to take a closer look at the Wharf as he and a friend cruise past it on their Sailaway Sunset Sail.

That's right, our great friends from Sailaway have thrown their support behind the competition, as they do with so many community events, and will be contributing a Sailaway Sunset Sail for two people each month. Welcome aboard guys!

Damian also took out the Most Popular Photo category so he's won himself a $20 Coles Supermarket Port Douglas voucher as well. What a fantastic debut!

Coles has also provided the third prize of a MasterChef Apron and classic Italian recipe book. Fittingly, this goes to Judy McCowen for her 'Pineapple' pic which showed incredible detail. Well done Judy.

But wait, there's more...

We're happy to announce a new category for Editor's Choice. Seabean Cafe Restaurant, new supporters of the Best Photo Competition, have offered up a delicious $50 meal voucher, underlining what we already know - The Newsport Best Photo Competition is the biggest and the best in the region.

Glenda Gordon's 'Mossman Gorge' has taken out the inaugural Editor's Choice award as it reminds him of a world outside the four walls of his office. Glenda will enjoy a lovely meal at Seabean for her efforts.

Congratulations to all of our winners for November. December entries are now being accepted so get your photos (up to four, each with a title) to competitions@thenewsport.com.au.
