Winners are grinners

Congratulations the Mossman Under 12s Premiers 2012. It was a nail biting experience on Saturday when the Under 12s travelled to Jones Park to take on ladder leaders Suburbs in the CDJRL Grand Final.

The first half saw outstanding play on both sides with speedster Austin Tayley controversially denied a try just before half time. Fierce defence from Callum Mather, Zachary Osborne, Lennox Schonenberger and Jayden Baldwin ensured Suburbs didn't cross the line in the first half.

A nil all score at half time prompted some inspirational words from Sharks legends and the boys responded well, returning to the field determined to bring home a win.

William Brown, Scott Bowen, Billy Kadwell and Campbell Allen made some huge gains in the centre of the field with big runs, whilst Wade Duncan, Rhyley Jenkins, Austin Tayley and Xavian Pitt kept Suburbs on their toes with their quick thinking outside attacks.

Suburbs were the first to score mid-way through the second half, with the Sharks able to recover the ball in good field position.  Great ball work from Trazane Cobb lead Cody Port to bust through the Suburbs' defensive line to score the first try for the Sharks in the right corner.

The Sharks were quick to reset for the kick off, regaining possession and making ground thanks to strong running from Tom Mischke, Phoenix Solomon and Anthony Slawson.  A knock-on saw Suburbs in possession, however great pressure from the Sharks forced an error and returned possession to the Sharks.

In the final minute of the game, the score was drawn at 4 all, when first receiver Zachary Osborne, dummied to the left and stepped right, confusing the oppositions' defensive line, and scored the match winning try in the dying seconds of the game.

The try was successfully converted by Trazane Cobb, resulting in a 10-4 win for the Sharks.

Team Coach, Adam Fischer, said he was incredibly proud of every one of the boys who all rose to the occasion and played at their very best for the final.

"They are a great bunch of kids with a huge pool of footy talent amongst them and I could not be prouder of their efforts throughout the season.  To take home the Premiership is a fitting reward for their outstanding efforts all season!"

UNDER 11

Under 11s were Undefeated for 2012 up until the Grand final.  The boys played well but the Brothers Blue’s players seemed a bit different to every other time we played them. We have beaten them four times before, but Saturday was not our time to shine.

The boys can hold their heads up high, and know that they are fantastic little footballers, they have played by the rules of Mod League, they have played fair and they have played cleanly.  If they all stick together next year with the same coach, watch out they will be a force to be reckoned with.

The kids and parents would publicly like to thank Billy Adams their coach, Danny Buzza their trainer, Tony Kadwell their manager and Kev Cranswick their First Aid officer.  Congratulations to Lachie Buzza on receiving the Best and Fairest in a Grand Final trophy from the CDJRL, well done matey.

The Presentation Day on Sunday was an exciting day of trophies, food and kids playing footy.  Each coach gave a wrap up of the players and the year they had.
