Video earns Sharks $30,000
Mossman Sharks Junior Rugby League club have won a nationwide competition earning them $30,000 in sports clothing from KooGa.
The Sharkies produced and entered a video that not only scored them enough votes from the public to get a top five finals berth, but impressed the judges so much they were awarded the major prize.
Judges in the competition included the likes of Wallabies coach Robbie Dean, Brisbane Lions coach Michael Voss, legendary league coach Craig Bellamy, World Cup winning prop Ewen McKenzie, Richmond coach Damien Hardwick, Brumbies coach Jake White, Melbourne Rebels' Damien Hill, Western Bulldogs' coach Brendan McCartney, and Force coach Richard Graham.
Elle Brown was the instigator of the Sharkies entry into the competition, and was still shocked at the result which will hold the club in good stead well into the future.
"I got an idea one night and asked the club what they thought about it and they said they were all keen," Ms Brown said.
"We win $30,000 worth of KooGa clothes of our choice. That'll help us with our sponsors as we'll be able to buy more training equipment instead of having to spend our money (on jerseys)."
The club pitted themselves against some stiff competition from much larger sporting organisations from around the country.
"We were up against an Australian women's touch footy team that have only lost two games in 25 years, Melbourne Grammar, really big schools and big footy clubs from Sydney. It is incredible for our little community," Ms Brown said.
Support for the Sharkies came from near and far with the Mossman Sharks' seniors, clubs from around the district, and even voters from the Netherlands throwing their weight behind the entry.
