Two month absence from range no worries

by Steve Cruickshank

Another perfect day in paradise at the Mossman Rifle Club, with a slight breeze and a heavy mirage, saw yet another small group of shooters turn up to hone  their skills in the lead up  to our annual prize shoot in September.

First on the 500 metre mound shooting in the F Class division (Mechanically supported/ sandbagged rifle with telescopic sights) was Norbert Schmidt.  Norbert opened with a 5 and a 3 which he chose to cut and then went on to squeeze off 10 more shots to score 57/4 (4 super Bulls eyes) out of a possible 60.

Malcolm Mckellar was next to set up on the mound after a two month absence from the range.  Mal opened with two 4’s as sighters and chose to cut them and then went on to shoot an exceptional score in this 10 shot Full Bore (Manually supported with peep sights)  comp with a final tally of 49/3 out of a possible 50.

Norbert was back on the mound for his second 500 meter range.  Norbert posted a second range score of 60/1 (one super Bulls eye) out of a possible 66 in this 11 shot match.  Norbert was having trouble with consistency due to old bullets/ different batched bullets.

Malcolm was back for his second range, Mal opened with a two 5’s which he kept and then went on to squeeze off 9 more superbly placed bullets in this 11 shot match to post a perfect final score of 55/1.

Norbert Schmidt posted a final double range score of 117/5 out of a possible 126 in the F class comp.

Malcom Mckellar shot exceptionally well after a two month absence from the sport to post a final score of 104/4 out of a possible 105.  Well done  Malcolm.

The Club meets every Saturday at 1:00 pm on the range which is situated ½  way between Port Douglas and Mossman on the Cook Highway.  Visitors are most welcome to come and participate.
