Time to crown Mr & Mrs Mossman High

Mossman State High School will crown 'Mr and Mrs Mossman High 2012' at a gala event at their indoor sports centre on 17 August.

Year 11 coordinator and organiser of the evening, Elliot Davidson, said the evening is about celebrating the community's traditions and its youth, and students are already preparing for the occasion.

"Mr and Mrs Lloyd have been teaching old time dancing to potential Mr and Miss Mossman High students at the school for 23 years and this tradition is a unique and meaningful ritual for our school and community," Mr Davidson said.

"Moreover, the night serves as a rite of passage for our students, a symbol and celebration of their transition into adulthood."

Students vying for the Mr and Mrs Mossman High title are judged on a range of criteria including community involvement, a written application, conduct in a structured interview and dancing skill.

Jake Catabiano and Kate Shrimpton took the honours in 2011.

Tickets to the event are available from the door on the night and prices are $20 for adults, $15 for students, children, and pensioners, and group bookings are available.

Doors open at 6pm on 17 August and the night will conclude on 10.30pm.
