Tammy named Face of Hope
Mossman’s Tammy Pelizzari has been named Cancer Council’s Far North Queensland Face of Hope in celebration of Daffodil Day this August 24.
Ms Pelizzari joins a select few of Cancer Council’s most inspiring volunteers across the state helping to grow hope for the many lives affected by cancer this Daffodil Day.
As Cancer Council’s Face of Hope, Ms Pelizzari is urging all locals to come together in celebration of this iconic fundraiser and give hope to all Queenslanders affected by cancer.
“Fourteen years ago, I lost my friend to stomach cancer, just 26 days after he was diagnosed. I was devastated.
“At the time there was no support in this area for cancer patients. I knew I had to change this.
“Soon after, I helped set up Cancer Council’s Mossman Port Douglas volunteer branch and a local cancer support group, to help educate and support others in my community affected by cancer.
“For me, Daffodil Day is about making people smile, about reminding my community that we are here to help, and that with a little bit of hope, everything is going to be okay.
“I sell daffodils on Daffodil Day because I hope for a cancer free future, and I know that with every daffodil we sell, we move closer to that breakthrough we all so desperately need,” Ms Pelizzari said.
