Running clinic comes to Port

Inspired by the Olympics and thinking of getting out there for a run? Here’s your chance to learn how to do it.

Running coach, Lorraine Lawson, knows what it’s like to be a beginner runner. She has conducted Adult Beginner Runners’ Clinics in Cairns over the past three years helping numerous people off the couch and onto the road.

Lorraine, who is a qualified athletics coach with Athletics Australia, says there are lots of adults who would love to run but need someone to help them with technique and motivation.

“I hope to help people take their first steps into the sport of running. The aim of the clinics is to prepare the runners to complete their first 5 kilometres at their own pace and injury free.

"I find that many of the runners meet new friends and running buddies that helps them to keep going,” said Mrs Lawson.

“It is not necessary to have prior experience or look athletic to participate. It is necessary to be medically capable of 20 to 30 minutes of mild activity."

Participants receive a 10-week training schedule and continued email support after the clinics. They also receive a Certificate of Participation.

Lorraine is travelling from Cairns to run a set of intensive clinics in Port Douglas on Thursday and Friday, 30 to 31 August 2012. There are limited spaces available, so contact Lorraine on 0417 798 444 or coachlorrainelawson@gmail.com.
