Run to paradise

Olympic 100m and 200m gold medallist and the hottest property in world sport, Usain Bolt, is coming to Australia in September, and the fight is on to attract the attention of the man of the moment.

"I want to say to the Australian people I'm coming to vacation in September. Look out," Bolt told Channel Nine during its Olympic broadcast.

While Cairns and Gold Coast Mayors Bob Manning and Tom Tate have begun to spruik their cities as an ideal holiday location, why wouldn't Bolt follow the leader, Julia Gillard, and head straight to Port Douglas?

Port's people are famous for giving A-listers their space, and surely there is no better place to unwind after a successful Olympic campaign away from his tropical home country of Jamaica.

"I definitely think we should be throwing our hat into the ring to get him here," said Port local Darren McCormack.

"Everywhere he goes there's huge media coverage so it could only be good for us, but there'd be some pretty stiff competition to get him.  Maybe we could rename the reef after him while he's here," David said.

Bolt's training partner and silver medallist, Yohan Blake, has also expressed interest in coming to Australia.
