Rex Creek Bridge open
Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service have confirmed that Rex Creek suspension bridge at Mossman Gorge was reopened on Saturday after cracks found in its structure forced its closure several weeks ago.
"For public safety, the bridge was closed on 15 June after cracks were found in handrail supports," Andrew Millerd, QPWS' Wet Tropics Regional Manager said.
"The handrails have been rewelded. QPWS is continuing to talk with engineers about a longer-term solution to stop the balustrade cracking."
QPWS have come under fire for an apparent lack of communication to the tourism sector, firstly when the decision was made to close the bridge, and then on its reopening.
However, Mr Millerd said local tourism centres and tour operators were advised about the closure.
The bridge gives access to a popular two kilometre circuit walk.
