Mossman part of new World record
Roby Kessler from Mossman has sent confirmation to The Newsport that the attempt to break the World Record for the number of people simultaneously swimming at one time was successful.
He reports, "From Aberdeen to Zamboanga City I can finally give you the news I've been longing to share...... As of this morning Wednesday August 15th, Guinness World Records have Officially confirmed that every single one of the four thousand five hundred and forty six people who took part in our World Record attempt have the right to call themselves World record Holders - Together Rotarians, Rotaractors, Interactors and friends in 23 countries of the globe have achieved the biggest simultaneous swim recorded in human history!!"
"We've had a few months to emotionally digest (via several pints of tears) the sheer enormity of raising over $100,000 for 'End Polio Now' ($104,622 or £65,908) and therefore how many thousands of children's lives can be saved as a result".
"To get this official World Record confirmation now, just as we're all still riding on the unstoppable collective wave of euphoria generated by the Olympics and soon the Paralympics is indescribably wonderful".
Roby very proudly declared, "Our event at only 100 metres per person was all about accessibilty and the spirit of taking part - we had swimmers from aged 8 to 93 who can now call themselves World Record Breakers"
"To think that I get to be the one to tell four thousand five hundred and forty six people across 23 countries and 5 continents of the world that each and everyone of them can now call themselves an officially recognised Guinness World Record Holder, part of the biggest ever simultaneous human swim recorded in human history- it's an unimaginable gift. It feels like I'm hanging a gold medal round all of your necks - what an honour"
"Thank you, Thank you all so much on behalf of Roger Graves , IPP Peter Berry , President Irvin Metcalf and all of us at the Rotary Global Swimarathon team for the incredible fundraising effort".
