Life's good as conference hits town
Two Port Douglas resorts are playing host to 650 representatives of global telecommunications companies as part of a five day conference.
The companies include the likes of Telstra, Samsung, and LG, and the Sheraton Mirage Resort Port Douglas and QT Resort Port Douglas are heaving with the numbers of guests.
But Sheraton general manager Lachlan Walker said the benefits are spread throughout the town.
"This is certainly the sort of business the town needs. It's driving another hotel's business, it's driving transfers, they're going to dinner at Flames (of the Forest) tonight so it's feeding all of us."

He said the telecommunications conference highlights the need to progress Sheraton co-owner David Marriner's plans to build an exposition centre large enough to entice huge conferences to Port Douglas.
"We're squeezed to capacity here. The Glade is being used, all our function rooms are being used, and they're filling the hotel across the road (QT Resort).
"This is certainly the sort of business we can do and at the end of the day we've got the largest facility in Far North Queensland so it highlights, for me, for David Marriner's vision to be put in place."
