Leap of faith wins photo comp

A breathtaking moment that was captured on camera has taken the top award in the Best Photo Competition for July.

Rob Parry's 'Good Times' reflects a moment of contemplation as a wing-suited dare-devil prepares for flight. Well done Rob - it's refreshing to see the spirit of adventure lives on!

Rob has won a $100 Garricks Camera House voucher AND $50 cash for his efforts (we think maybe he should give it to the person in the wing suit!).

A relative newcomer to the competition, Ellen Wilson has tasted early success and has done so again in July with her photo titled 'No Man's Land.'

It's a fantastic shot capturing the vast expanses of the region taking the observer across tidal flats to the menacing Thornton's Peak in the distance.

Ellen can have it, or an image of her choice, immortalised on a 600mm x 400mm stretched canvas valued at $120 thanks to Perrin Clarke at Imagebank Australia who has supported the Best Photo Comp from the very early days.

Win big in The Newsport's Best Photo Competition

A man no stranger to the winner's dais is Tod Walker. Tod's 'Mossman Show' pic shows a towering ride at the Mossman Show with a proud Australian flag flying in the foreground. Tod has won a double-pass to Moonlight Cinema.

Finally, and for the second month in a row, Charlotte Hellings has taken out the Most Popular Photo. Charlotte's choice of title 'Fire Waterfall ‘certainly lives up to its name and although Charlotte probably doesn't want to hear this, was stiff not to feature in the top three.

Having said that there were a number of photo's which deserve recognition above and beyond a shortlist finish.

Charlotte has won a MasterChef Apron and Italian recipe book jam packed with delicious recipes (a lovely present for a loved one as she won the same prize in June) thanks to Coles Supermarket Port Douglas.

Thanks go to all of our valued sponsors who provide the awesome prizes, and our judges; Ben and Cath from Sass Studios, Perrin from Imagebank Australia, and Ali from Catseye Productions.

Prize winners can contact The Newsport on 4099 5122 to arrange collection.

August entries are now being accepted so get involved in the best photo competition in the region.
