Kindy celebrates 10 years

Port Douglas Community Kindergarten is celebrating its tenth birthday this coming Sunday (Aug 5th), and those involved in its creation all those years ago will reflect on its success.

Erica Whillas, a teacher and director at the Kindy, said the Kindy has come a long way since the idea was toyed with amongst a handful of residents.

"A group of parents who wanted a kindergarten in Port for their children banned together, and with a common dream, innovation and a lot of hard work, they made it happen."

"From a small group of 15 children in the shared pre-school class room the Kindy has grown to 44 children in a beautiful purpose built kindergarten.

"This could not have happened without dedicated, hard working parent committees and the amazing support of the Port Douglas community. The ongoing generosity of this town is awesome!" she said.

To celebrate the ocassion, past, present and future students of the Kindy can join in the festivities on Sunday 5 August from 10am to 12 noon.

For more information call Erica on 4098 5811.
