Grants workshop coming to Port

Grants of up to $20,000 are now on offer through Cairns Regional Council’s Economic Diversification Fund.

The fund supports strategic business development, employment generating activities, new industry feasibility studies, marketing projects, research and innovation, and investment attraction projects that will result in tangible economic benefits to the Cairns region.

Mayor Bob Manning said he hoped many local businesses and organisations would take the opportunity to think outside the square.

“We are looking to encourage business initiatives that create new opportunities for employment, expansion or diversification,” Cr Manning said.

“Projects that respond to a demonstrated need in the community or offer clear economic benefit on a broad scale are particularly encouraged.

“Through the fund, we can offer support through financial or in-kind grant assistance.”

Information sessions will be held in Cairns and Port Douglas during the next two weeks to assist potential applications in understanding the guidelines and application process.

Applications for Economic Diversification Fund grants close on October 12, with applicants to be notified of outcomes in December.
